How to save places from Instagram DMs
Stop losing restaurant and travel recommendations buried in Instagram DMs. Save them into organised place collections on iPhone while the context is still clear.
The best restaurant recommendations often arrive as DMs: a reel from a friend, a map screenshot, a carousel you promised to "check out later."
DMs are brilliant for sharing. They are terrible as long-term storage.
Why DMs fail as place memory
- Messages scroll away
- Context is split across threads
- You cannot browse by trip or mood
- Search is message-first, not place-first
If a recommendation matters beyond this week, it needs to leave the chat.
Save from a DM on iPhone
- Open the Instagram DM with the recommendation.
- Tap the post, reel, or link you want to keep.
- Tap Share and choose someday.
- Pick a collection —

Keep the social context on the place
When you save from a DM, capture at least one of:
- Sender's name
- Their quote or recommendation
- Occasion — birthday dinner, rainy day cafe, trip highlight
That is what makes the place useful when the DM is fifty scrolls ago.
Review DMs like an inbox
Once a week, skim DMs for place links you have not moved yet. If it still looks good, share it to someday. If not, let it go.
Small weekly hygiene beats a pre-trip archaeology session.
