Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 23, 2026
This policy describes how Trove handles information when you use our iOS app and related services.
Introduction
Trove ("Trove," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile app that helps you save, organise, and revisit places you discover online — for example from Instagram, TikTok, Google Maps links, screenshots, and messages from friends.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Trove app and related services (including our import processing backend), how we use and share that information, and the choices available to you.
By creating an account or using Trove, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Information we collect
We collect information in these categories:
- Account information — such as your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifiers and profile details those providers share according to your settings.
- Profile information — such as display name, bio, optional location text, avatar image, and appearance preferences you choose in the app.
- Places and collections — including place names, coordinates, addresses, notes, tags, visit status, reviews, optional photos, list membership, and metadata about where a place came from (for example a source URL, caption, creator label, or thumbnail from an import).
- Shared collections — if you collaborate on a list, we store membership, roles, and attribution showing who added or updated content, as configured by the product.
- Imports and links you submit — when you save from a supported link or share extension, we process the URL and related content needed to extract places (for example public captions, transcripts, or preview media associated with that link).
- Subscription and billing status — if you purchase Trove Pro, payment is handled by Apple. We receive subscription status, product identifiers, and transaction references needed to unlock paid features, not your full payment card details.
- Support messages — if you contact us through Help & feedback, we receive the information you include (which may contain your email, account identifier, app version, and platform).
- Technical, usage, and analytics data — limited server logs, import-pipeline diagnostics (for example error stages, platform type, and estimated processing cost), device/app metadata, page views, feature usage, and request metrics to understand funnels, improve product quality, and keep imports reliable.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide the core Trove experience: saving places, syncing your data across devices, showing maps and lists, and helping you find saved places again.
- Process imports from supported social and maps links, including transcription, text extraction, geocoding, and place matching.
- Operate accounts, authentication, shared lists, and subscription entitlements.
- Respond to support requests and improve reliability, security, and product quality.
- Comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect Trove, our users, and others.
Third-party links and content
Trove lets you save places discovered on third-party platforms. When you submit a link, our systems may retrieve publicly available information associated with that content to identify places. We do not control third-party sites or apps, and their privacy practices apply separately.
Opening a place in an external maps app (for example Google Maps) is subject to that provider's policies.
Storage, sync, and retention
Your account-backed data is stored in secure cloud infrastructure so it can sync across your devices. The app may also keep a local cache on your device for speed and offline access.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations.
If you delete your account or specific content, we delete or anonymise associated data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business needs (for example billing records).
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold about you, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, or lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
You can update profile details in the app, manage photos through your device permissions, and sign out or delete your account through account settings where available. For other requests, contact us using the details below.
Device permissions — Trove may request access to your photo library when you choose a profile photo, collection cover, or review image, and may receive URLs or text shared into the app through your device's share sheet. You can change permissions in your device settings.
Children
Trove is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
International users
Trove may process and store information in countries other than where you live, including where our service providers operate. We take steps designed to protect your information consistent with this policy and applicable law.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls on production systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or on this site. Continued use of Trove after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
