The Screenshot Graveyard of Saved Places

The screenshot is the universal "I'll deal with this later" move. Map pin. Menu photo. Reel frame with a venue name half visible. It feels responsible — you captured it — but six months later your camera roll is a graveyard of good intentions.

Why screenshot folders fail as place memory

Photo libraries sort by date and album, not by how you decide:

You scroll until you give up, then re-search the same place on Instagram or Google.

Screenshots strip context fast

A map pin image rarely includes:

• Who sent it
• What to order
• Why you cared
• Whether it was for travel or a weeknight near home

The image ages; the story fades. You are left with a JPEG of a star icon and no plan.

The better pattern: one retrievable record

When you catch yourself about to screenshot a place:

1. Share the original link, Reel, TikTok, or map link into a place collection (someday on iOS share sheet works for this).
2. Name a collection that matches intent — trip, mood, or person.
3. Add one line of context.

If you only have a screenshot, that is still fine: import the image, type the place name, note where you saw it. Goal: one record you can find by intent, not another image in limbo.

Rescue a few (not all) of the old graveyard

You do not need to process five years of screenshots. Pick a trip or a neighbourhood you care about this month:

1. Search Photos for that city or restaurant type.
2. Keep the three to ten places you would still go.
3. Save them properly with names and notes.
4. Leave the rest buried — guilt-free.

Future-you only needs a shortlist that works, not a complete archive of past enthusiasm.
